Clinical pathways have become a way of life at Children's Hospital San Diego (CHSD), as shrinking reimbursement from payers has challenged the hospital to find ways to manage cost while maintaining quality. The authors describe their experience teaching pathways to CHSD residents and guiding them toward an appreciation for the value and use of these quality improvement tools.
