Talking about clinical practice guidelines: how much should patients be told?

Although clinical practice guidelines are often invaluable clinical tools, they can also create challenging ethical dilemmas for health care providers who use them. Physicians must evaluate multiple facets of a clinical encounter before deciding when to discuss guidelines with their patients and how much information they should disclose.
