Applying evidence to the care of a healthy patient: how to approach decisions about screening Bliss SJ, Beekman KW,
Physicians are increasingly expected to know when, how, and in whom screening tests should be applied to promote the health and well-being of their patients. This article uses a patient scenario as the basis for examining how to take an evidence-based approach to deciding whether it is worthwhile to screen a patient for disease. The authors examine several evidence-based medicine concepts including principles of screening healthy populations, where to find evidence to guide screening decisions, how to appraise a research article on a screening test, and how to approach a decision about screening when the evidence is incomplete.
