Characteristics of general internists who practice only outpatient medicine: results from the physician worklife study Saint S, Konrad TR, Golin CE, Welsh DE, Linzer M
Discussions within general internal medicine have focused on the hospitalist movement, while little attention has been paid to the development of a group of internists providing solely outpatient care. To learn more about the demographic, practice, and patient case mix characteristics of physicians who work exclusively outside the hospital, the authors analyzed data from the Physician Worklife Study. The results of their study reveal important differences between these internists and those who maintain an inpatient practice.
