The hospitalist model of inpatient medical care Chakrapani RM, Diamond HS
The hospitalist movement has been one of the most important conceptual developments in clinical care delivery of the last decade. Although data on the advantages of hospitalists are limited, this model of inpatient care presents an opportunity for hospitals and physicians to potentially improve the quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of the care they provide. The authors describe fundamental aspects of the hospitalist role in patient care, including typical duties of a hospitalist, specific skills required of the position, and how hospitalists are employed and impact health care quality, cost, and delivery.
