Benefit-based copays: an alternative approach to formulary management Fendrick AM
Standard tiered copay arrangements for pharmacy benefits may unfairly limit access to expensive drugs for patients with low or limited incomes. In this editorial, the author argues that a more equitable structure for pharmacy copays--a benefit-based copay system--should be developed. This new system should be based on a patient's individual disease severity and the likelihood that he or she would receive benefit from a specified intervention.
