A practical guide to physician performance profiles Bahl V, Williams BC
Initially unique to the managed care world, physician performance profiles are now being produced by a wide range of organizations. Although profiles tend to report on similar types of information, the quality of the information can vary due to methodologic problems in producing profiles. Despite concerns about their reliability, profiles will likely become more common as consumer and purchaser demands for accountability and value persist. Accordingly, physicians need to be knowledgeable about profiles. This article provides a practical guide to understanding, evaluating, creating, and using profiles.
