What residents need to know about JCAHO accreditation of hospitals
Schyve PM, Croteau RJ, Wise RA, Lee RE
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is an independent, nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of care provided by acute care hospitals, ambulatory and behavioral health care facilities, clinical laboratories, and other systems of health care providers. Using a clinical scenario, the authors describe the mission of JCAHO and the components of the hospital accreditation process, including the roles that residents may play in the process.
