Physician profiling in managed care Ullman R, Scherpbier H, Diamond C
To decrease practice variation and improve the quality of patient care, managed care organizations (MCOs) frequently monitor contracted physicians' performance and present them with report cards or profiles. These reports may include measures of cost-efficiency, resource utilization, quality and outcomes, and member satisfaction. The authors describe how MCOs develop physician profiles and provide an example to illustrate how profiles may be used to monitor care for patients with a chronic illness.
