Ethical issues in capitation: how can financial incentives affect patient care? Callahan M
Physicians whose contracts with health plans include capitated payments for patient care may experience financial incentives to conserve resources and reduce costs. Many physicians are concerned that such incentives challenge their ability to provide ethical care to patients. The author discusses this issue in terms of maintaining veracity, allowing for patient autonomy, and acting with beneficence in patient encounters.
