Melanoma is curable if detected early and surgically excised. A surgical margin of at least 1 cm is needed. Therapy for metastatic disease is limited. Although chemotherapy, biotherapy, and vaccines have been used, these therapies have not had a significant impact on survival of patients with metastatic disease.
