This patient has minimal change disease. The rapid onset of swelling is one clue, while the microscopic findings clinch the diagnosis. The lack of immune deposits on immunofluorescence staining excludes membranous nephropathy and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. The patient does not have risk factors for focal segmental glomerulosclerosis.
