In mitral stenosis, the left ventricular impulse is absent because of decreased left ventricular filling as a result of the stenotic mitral valve. A right ventricular heave is present owing to anterior displacement of the right ventricle from an enlarged left atrium. The carotic pulse is typically hypokinetic.
