Answer 5 Educate patient about the disease and have him follow-up in clinic in a few weeks. Since this was the patient’s first attack of gout, there is no need for prophylactic therapy with low-dose colchicine. Also, colchicine should be used cautiously in patients with renal disease because of the risk of side effects.
