Answer 5 Bursitis. The olecranon bursa lies over the olecranon process of the elbow. Inflammation of this bursa can result from constant elbow pressure or repeated use. Olecranon bursitis typically results in painful swelling of the olecranon bursa, although sometimes the swelling is painless.
