The patients radiograph shows a left pleural effusion. Although egophony can sometimes occur just above a pleural effusion, diminished breath sounds are the most likely finding. Diminished breath sounds occur over the area of a pleural effusion because breath sounds are poorly transmitted through dense media, such as a pleural effusion.
