CAH is an inherited disorder in which the adrenal glands produce low levels of cortisol and aldosterone and increased levels of androgens. Elevated 17-hydroxyprogesterone is seen in CAH, a result of 21-hydroxylase deficiency, and elevated DHEAS further indicates an adrenal source. Cortisol secretion is decreased in CAH.
