Headache and Forehead Swelling in a 9-Year-Old Boy with Sinusitis

	Answer 4 Cefazolin/gentamicin. Cefazolin has bactericidal effect against Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillinase-producing strains), group A ß-hemolytic streptococci, and Haemophilus influenzae. Co-administration with an aminoglycoside adds coverage for gram-negative organisms, but this combination does not provide adequate coverage for anaerobic organisms such as Bacteroides species, which are often found in patients with sinusitis with intracranial involvement.
