Isotonic fluid is recommended for volume resuscitation in patients such as this one with compensated shock. Reasonable options include either normal saline solution or lactated Ringers solution. In children, the recommended amount is 20 mL/kg body weight per bolus, repeated as necessary to achieve euvolemia.
