Few studies have been conducted investigating the use of thrombolytics or anticoagulants in neonates, and the use of these agents is controversial. Seizures in the period following ischemic injury can propagate further tissue damage; the use of anticonvulsants is therefore an important adjunct therapy for managing stroke. There is no indication for the use of corticosteroid therapy in the treatment of neonatal stroke.
