The changing use of peripherally inserted central catheters: a review of 5000 insertions at a single hospital

The authors review the cumulative experience of the peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) service at their institution. Requests for PICC placement sharply increased during the study period, with placement rates improving from 96.3% in the first series to 99.5% in the second series.
