Antimicrobial selection and length of hospital stay in patients with community-acquired pneumonia Trowbridge JF, Artymowicz RH, Lee CE, Brown PD, Farber MS, Kernan W, Beaulieu JE, Goldman MP, Yanak F, Lewis JS, Ravikrishnan KP, Krebs W, Day D, Lubowski TJ
Guideline recommendations for empiric treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) differ with regard to which antibiotics should be administered. In this study of hospitalized patients with mild to moderately severe CAP, the authors found that regimens that included coverage for atypical pathogens were associated with a shorter length of stay as compared with regimens that did not provide such coverage.
