Should the CRAFFT substance abuse screening test be shortened? Knight JR, Sherritt L, Gates EA, Harris SK
Comprising 6 orally answered yes/no questions, the CRAFFT test has good sensitivity (0.80), specificity (0.87), and accuracy (0.86) in identifying substance-related problems in adolescent medical clinic patients. The authors determined that the test could be shortened to 5 questions (CRAFT) without significantly altering its psychometric properties, which may make the test easier to administer without a written prompt.
