JCOM Abstract

J Clin Outcomes Manage
2003 Jan;10(1):19-23
Has the use of appendiceal ultrasonography been effective in reducing the negative appendectomy rate?
Khorasani R, Cheng D, Bates DW, Lippert J, Eslami M, Seltzer SE, Brooks DC, Doubilet PM

Preoperative management of patients with suspected acute appendicitis is widely debated in the literature. In this study, the researchers found that appendiceal ultrasonography did not reduce the number of surgeries performed in patients with normal appendices. The overall sensitivity of the test was 59%.
